A new year and a year of change

This year will be one for change for the Moore family. Hopefully, both Zoë and Alexandra will graduate from their universities, following hard on the heels of their mother, Lucy, who graduated with a 2.1 in Physiotherapy last year. Zoë has a vague plan to find somewhere to live with her boyfriend in North London. Of course that depends on finding suitable work, not the easiest of tasks for graduates these days, but the specialist nature of her course with Imperial College will help (hopefully). Read more […]

Fastmail independent again (bought back from Opera by original developers). +FastMail is the best email service available in my view. It is based in Australia which has very different privacy laws to, say, USA, and I think those laws are better than most. It does cost money but not a lot and there is no advertising, no selling of my details, no data mining. They also offer full domain name management (edit your zone records if you want). There is spam filtering and reporting (all optional) and you Read more […]

Stop worrying if someone cuts off your finger to break into your new iPhone 5s. It’s being called a medical marvel. A south Florida doctor used a unique procedure to actually grow back a man’s finger that a horse bit off. via Public RSS-Feed of Stuart Moore. Just watched an absolutely hilarious performance of Much Ado About Nothing as one of the actors was completely drunk (they take it in turns). Audience also pretty merry. Probably all more like it was when originally performed (but for women playing the female parts these days of course). Shit-faced Shakespeare is on at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe – http://www.edfringe.com/event/SHITFAC+Edinburgh Festival Fringe #edfringe #shakespeare An entirely serious Shakespeare play – with an entirely Read more […]

Reshared post from fabiola delatorre:

This is pretty impressive, but I confess to being amused by the ironic comment by +Josh Smith about the guy failing to grow his leg back (and if anyone ever deserved to succeed, it has to be this guy). Parking SensorsJust had some parking sensors added, front and back, to the wife's Ford Fiesta. She will qualify as a Physiotherapist soon and will no doubt end up parking in lots of strange places, and felt the need for a little help (I think her diminutive stature makes it harder to be as spatially aware as many others when parking).I was very pleased to find a localish one-man business, a former auto-electrician, now specialising in parking sensors, to supply and fit a suitable system for Read more […]

I like Windows 8Works really well on decent laptop with a touch screen once you get used to the various swiping gestures (mostly not very discoverable – you have to look out for some tips). For my desktop machine, I have an older touch monitor that does not support all the gestures and the surface is not level with the surround so gestures that start off screen do not work – I have been thinking about getting a Logitech Touchpad to get around this. Most of the time though, I find keyboard shortcuts Read more […]

Circle ManagementI've just started to follow +Kamal Tailor on the back of his post below, not so much because I aspire to follow his OCD approach but because I figure anyone who gives that much attention to detail in using G+ is definitely going to be helpful to me. As a bonus, he posts a lot of pretty interesting stuff anyway. Be warned though. He thinks he is ugly. He says so in his profile. They are many reasons why someone might say such a thing. I leave you to try to figure out his. via Read more […]
