Can't see comment I made earlier but can see it when using a different Google+ identify (one of my Page ids) as can other people. This suggests that the OP has blocked me in some way, but what I find surprising is that a comment I have made can no longer be seen by me and therefore cannot be edited by me but it is still visible to other people. Is this the behaviour you would expect?Original post below (with my response, which I can't see). via Google+ https://plus.google.com/108083406947097710872/posts/5DWCu9P5ffy Read more […]

I changed the cover photo on my profile recently to this one of a narrow boat exiting a lock. Travelling the man made waterways of the UK is one of my favourite pass times.Typically, I hire a boat for the family and friends for a week and do a circuit of some kind that takes in both city and countryside worlds. You see a lot of evidence of the past when you pass through a city on the waterways including signs of many brands from long ago. Places like Birmingham have more miles of waterway than Venice! Humanist response to tragedy

I do envy those of faith at such times. I have been watching coverage of the bombings at the Boston marathon as well as the car bombings in Baghdad both of which showed many at prayer and whilst I do not believe the prayer itself gets a direct response it is clear that those praying do benefit as they feel they are doing something, it provides a practical (to them) way to respond and helps them deal with the issue. That others are praying provides some comfort to many of the victims. That someone Read more […]

I have only just discovered Telford Live, and what a jewel it is for the people living in and around Telford, Shropshire, UK with a long and distinguished history (in internet years). Lots of local news and a presence on twitter where locals help each other. This illustrates a key difference between dogs and cats for me. I know many people get considerable pleasure from their cats but for me it seems cats are mostly self interested and dogs are interested in me (or whoever the pack leader is). Whilst I was no great fan of Thatcher, I agree with +Jeremy Spencer that the way some people have attacked her is, in my words, abhorrent. She served our nation to the best of her ability and did what she thought was right and was voted, democratically, into office several times. via Google+ https://plus.google.com/108083406947097710872/posts/47XZ4Zdtqsu Read more […]

I have mentioned before that I am a humanist. I am also a member of the +British Humanist Association and I recommend their profile and website to anyone interested in the promotion of humanism in the UK and in bringing balance to the religious debates and the influence of religion on government policy and in education. It is worth noting that that many people that describe themselves as atheists are using the term in a probability sense rather than an absolutist sense as the later would be demonstrating Read more […]
