Parking SensorsJust had some parking sensors added, front and back, to the wife's Ford Fiesta. She will qualify as a Physiotherapist soon and will no doubt end up parking in lots of strange places, and felt the need for a little help (I think her diminutive stature makes it harder to be as spatially aware as many others when parking).I was very pleased to find a localish one-man business, a former auto-electrician, now specialising in parking sensors, to supply and fit a suitable system for Read more […]

Happy 50th

Absolutely delighted to turn 50 at last. Feels like a proper age, and I can stop feeling like the kid on the block about to be found out to be an imposter. Two fantastic presents. Firstly, and best of all, a new hand-made shirt from my wife, the first for years (she has been too busy studying). Secondly, a motorcycle again. I have been promising myself one of these for years. Also, enjoyed a great meal out on my brother at the King and Thai near Ironbridge with my brother and Read more […]

Moving on from IBM

Two big milestones in my life this year: turning 50 leaving IBM The first was automatic, and as I have been referring to myself as 50ish for a good while, was no big shock anyway. The second was a voluntary decision that ultimately took moments to make after considering it off and on for the last year or so. I have been with IBM for 11 years, and PricewaterhouseCoopers for a year before that. I had no plans to join IBM, but their purchase of the consulting arm of PricewaterhouseCoopers in Read more […]

My wife is learning physiotherapy (on final year of degree course) and the stories she tells me of people in long term pain suffering side effects from the pain medication or taking the pain makes my blood go cold. Maybe the boffins have a new option on the way: "‘Freezer burn’ method numbs painful nerves" http://feedly.com/k/ZlPjIc via Google+ https://plus.google.com/108083406947097710872/posts/CeHVBs4U6gX Read more […]

Acquired mine on eBay for only a £20 premium. Absolutely delighted with my 32gb model. Seller is very keen on Android but his wife made it very very clear she wanted an iPad 4 (in fact I saw he had bought one on eBay after he listed the nexus). They are selling for much more of a premium so I was lucky. Not sure how warranty support works if purchased second hand. Would saying it was a present make a difference. I guess usual two year warranty applies as clearly could not have been purchased before Read more […]

Solving the ecommerce home delivery problem for online shoppers

I am really glad to have tried out ByBoxUk and will be signing up for the annual plan (less than £1 per week) shortly as it solves a key home delivery problem for me. The likes of Home Delivery Network (now called Yodel) are very unreliable for home deliveries in my experience, delivering at strange times, being difficult to contact, hard to track, handling goods poorly at times, and certainly reporting delivery attempts that do not seem to fit with my observations. Like most people with Read more […]

A sad loss

I attended a funeral yesterday of a good family friend. A mother of five children. She died suddenly a couple of weeks ago aged only 43. Two of her children are university age, the rest are younger. It was heart rendering to see the children at the ceremony. The father was incredibly dignified and presented an amazing eulogy that was enlightening, moving and (in places) funny. The ceremony was conducted in a relatively small C of E church located in rolling countryside. When we left Read more […]

Swansea Marina

Swansea Originally uploaded by kyber Really enjoyed a break in Swansea last week. I have been working in the area for around a year now, but never had much of a chance to explore the area. My wife joined me for the week and we had a good look around. We also had plenty of time to do some photography. Some places we have simply recced ready for a subsequent photography visit later in the year. Other times we have done some shooting. One of the most fun evenings was doing some long-exposures Read more […]
